One of the biggest trends, when it comes to the 9 yards of drape, is the Georgette Saree. From Bollywood stars to Hollywood icons, to the fashionista next door, Georgette has made its way into every lady’s heart with its flowy and light material.
Like most of the biggest fashion trends in the world, the fabric of georgette was made in France by Madame Georgette de la Plante sometime around 1915. Although it is believed that the inspiration for this fabric was derived from the fabric “Chiffon”, keeping Georgette stronger and more durable.
Coming back to the fabric, let’s look at some tips and tricks to take care of your Georgettes!
It is very important that you wash your georgettes by hand and use a mild soap for it. Physical stress to the material while washing like stretching can harm the fabric. Too much pressure or stretching is harmful to the threads and can lead to a tear. Also, make sure to check for washing instructions when you buy georgette as they have varied requirements at times and also keep in mind if there are any embellishments or embroidery on it.
It is very crucial that you don’t dry out your georgettes in direct sunlight as they can affect the colour of the fabric, especially when wet. Air drying is a good option. Also to avoid any tears, avoid wringing the fabric and let the water drip and drain naturally.
Tip: don’t use many clothes pins for it weakens the fabric.
Avoid hanging the fabric on a hanger as it leads to tearing. Also, make it point to refold your georgettes every once in a while. Change the fold lines on the regular basis to avoid ripping of the fabric.
Wearing a georgette outfit is definitely very nerve wrecking. A slight contact with a sharp object can lead to a tear without a minute’s notice. Also, avoid wearing georgettes in direct sunlight. Yes, it applies while wearing too! In case of the unavoidable spill, wipe off the stain with a napkin and avoid rubbing too hard and give it a wash afterward.
Handling Georgette can be a little stressing but it’s all made worth the effort when we are there in our gorgeous outfits being all graceful and stylish.
